The Atlanta Falcons’ ongoing struggle to generate a pass rush could prompt the team to explore free agency, especially with veterans like Frank Clark and Justin Houston still available. However, instead of adding an edge rusher this week, the Falcons have opted to strengthen their receiving corps.

Atlanta signed veteran receiver Phillip Dorsett to the practice squad, a move that may raise eyebrows given the team’s solid start at the position. The Falcons’ starting lineup of Darnell Mooney, Drake London, and Ray-Ray McCloud has stayed healthy, with special teams standout KhaDarel Hodge and rookie Casey Washington adding depth.

Dorsett’s signing isn’t due to any immediate issues but aims to bolster depth. The experienced wideout, who has been in the league since 2015, offers reliability if injuries occur. His best season came in 2016, with over 500 yards and two touchdown receptions.

Adding Dorsett’s experience could provide more security than the team’s current depth options. Atlanta is smart to look for ways to strengthen an offense expected to carry much of the load this season, especially given struggles with the run defense and pass rush. The Falcons’ season may hinge on an impact trade or the offense’s ability to step up, and while adding depth is helpful, fans are still waiting for a move that addresses the team’s pressing needs.
