The Michigan Wolverines got their season back on track Saturday night with their first victory since September 28, defeating the Michigan State Spartans 24-17. With this win, Michigan improves to 5-3, setting the stage for a clash with the No. 1 Oregon Ducks (8-0) next Saturday at Michigan Stadium.
Quarterback Davis Warren was asked if the victory over Michigan State has energized the team heading into the showdown with Oregon.
“Absolutely,” Warren replied.
Preparation for Oregon is already in full swing. Warren mentioned that since Oregon faced Michigan State earlier this month, the Wolverines have been analyzing film from that game. Additionally, during their bye week, they reviewed some footage of Oregon.
Warren demonstrated composure against Michigan State, completing 13 of 19 passes for 123 yards and one touchdown. He expressed confidence about facing the top-ranked Ducks next week.
“Excited. Good. We welcome that challenge. Bring the number one team here. I know we can handle it,” Warren said. “We’re more than capable of taking them on.”
While many don’t expect Michigan to defeat Oregon, a win would mark a significant turnaround after two tough losses on the road against Washington and Illinois.
“This is a thrilling opportunity for us,” Warren noted. “We’ll approach it the same way we did this week and continue to improve. We’ll be better as a team next week and bring our best effort.”
Though Davis Warren may not be former Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy, his “bring ‘em on” attitude echoes McCarthy’s mindset—a crucial trait for any quarterback looking to lead. If the saying “you are what you think” holds true, then having a quarterback with big dreams is essential for making them a reality.
This college football season has been filled with surprises, reminding us to expect the unexpected. Oregon vs. Michigan — let’s bring it on!
