Two offensive starters were sidelined by injuries in LSU’s 38-23 road defeat against Texas A&M.
Left guard Garrett Dellinger limped off the field in the second quarter due to an ankle injury, while receiver CJ Daniels was declared out at halftime with a suspected lower leg issue.
Dellinger, a senior with 30 career starts, hobbled into the injury tent where trainers wrapped his ankle. After testing it on the sideline, he walked to the locker room just before halftime. Redshirt freshman Paul Mubenga took over for him for the remainder of the game.
Daniels played the first half but emerged from the LSU locker room at the start of the third quarter wearing a walking boot on his left foot. He had been listed as a game-time decision in LSU’s pre-game availability report.
Before his exit, Daniels recorded two receptions for 17 yards.
Typically, redshirt freshman Tyree Adams would step in if a starting lineman was injured, but he recently had surgery for a hernia sustained before the Tigers’ Oct. 12 victory over Ole Miss.
The two injuries compounded the struggles of an LSU offense that faltered in the second half against Texas A&M. During their seven defensive series, the Aggies forced the Tigers into a punt, three interceptions, and two turnovers on downs.
LSU finished the game with just 24 net rushing yards on 23 carries, with a sack-adjusted rushing average of only 1.9 yards.
