The Arizona Cardinals have surged to a 6-4 record, winning four straight games and five of their last six, climbing to the top of a tightly contested NFC West. With all four division teams separated by just half a game, the Cardinals currently hold the third seed in the NFC playoff picture after 11 weeks of action.
To bolster their playoff push, the Cardinals are making adjustments to their offensive line. On Monday, they waived lineman Charlie Heck, creating room for right tackle Jonah Williams, according to Cardinals reporter Bo Brack.
Williams took over as Arizona’s starting right tackle following the offseason release of veteran D.J. Humphries, who had been with the team for nine years. Humphries suffered a torn ACL in Week 17 last season and was released while recovering, leading the Cardinals to sign Williams, a former first-round pick of the Cincinnati Bengals.
Unfortunately, Williams sustained a knee injury during his Cardinals debut in Week 1 and was subsequently placed on injured reserve. However, after Week 8, the team announced his return to practice, starting his 21-day activation window. Arizona must activate him by November 20 to avoid him reverting to IR for the remainder of the season. The release of Heck signals Williams is likely ready to return.
At 6-4, the Cardinals would rank last in the NFC North, but they remain firmly in the postseason hunt in the NFC West. With a 2-0 record in divisional play, they face crucial matchups ahead, including two games against the Seattle Seahawks in the next three weeks and season-ending contests against the Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers.
