Cowboys Make Roster Adjustments Ahead of Week 11 Matchup

3 Cowboys free agents likely gone in 2024 (and 2 who will be back)

The Dallas Cowboys are gearing up for their Week 11 Monday Night Football showdown against the Houston Texans, but some significant roster changes have shifted the team’s outlook for the rest of the season.

On Monday, the Cowboys placed starting quarterback Dak Prescott on injured reserve following season-ending hamstring surgery. Surprisingly, the team did not use the open roster spot to bolster the offense. Instead, they added defensive back Josh Butler.

Butler, a former Michigan State standout, previously played in the UFL for the Michigan Panthers. The 27-year-old had been on the Cowboys’ practice squad and now steps into the roster spot vacated by Prescott.

With Prescott sidelined, Dallas faces an uphill battle to stay competitive and make a playoff push. This puts added pressure on head coach Mike McCarthy, whose job may be on the line for the remainder of the season.

If the Cowboys fail to turn things around, the head coaching position could become one of the most attractive openings in the NFL. However, working under owner Jerry Jones may present challenges that could affect their ability to secure a top-tier replacement.
