The New York Giants have been working to rebuild their offensive line after losing Pro Bowl left tackle Andrew Thomas to a season-ending foot injury. While they added veteran LT Chris Hubbard to the roster, his presence hasn’t fully addressed the gap left by Thomas. Now, the Giants may be exploring the free-agent market again, showing interest in another former Pro Bowl left tackle.

Last month, the team hosted veteran D.J. Humphries for a visit, aiming to bolster their line following Thomas’s loss. However, Humphries was still recovering from an ACL tear sustained last season and wasn’t ready to return to action at that time. As a result, the Giants opted not to sign him. Now that Humphries has been medically cleared to play, they may revisit the idea.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Humphries, a 2021 Pro Bowl selection, is now healthy and available. Widely regarded as the top offensive lineman currently on the market, Humphries could provide a significant upgrade for the Giants as they look to finish the season strong.

Before his injury in 2023, Humphries earned a 62.5 Pro Football Focus grade, allowing just 28 pressures and five sacks across 922 snaps. At his peak, he has consistently ranked among the league’s best offensive tackles. However, at 30 years old and coming off a serious injury, there are questions about whether he can return to his previous form.

For the Giants, who are in desperate need of offensive line depth, Humphries could be seen as both an immediate solution and a potential long-term improvement.
